Zionsville’s Future Largest Nature Park in Planning Phase

Much has happened and much to be done… It has been a year since Jim and Nancy Carpenter purchased the 216-acre former Wolf Run Golf Course. Thanks to the encouragement and support from Mayor Styron, the Zionsville Town Council and the Zionsville Park Board things are moving ahead at breakneck speed! Although it is not an official park yet, lots is happening to make this vision come true for the community.

What’s happening now?

Extensive planning is going on to develop the best concepts and design for the property. Some of the most exciting aspects will likely include a new nature center, extensive nature and interpretive trails, enhanced wildlife habitat and observation areas, opportunities for group camping, a cross country course, nature play, an outdoor classroom and even treetop experiences!

Plant communities and species have been thoroughly identified on site. This will guide in eliminating invasive species and enhancing and developing wildlife habitat.

Plans are in the works with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to mitigate and improve the 2/3 mile of Eagle Creek and its drainages running through the property for a healthier riparian waterway, cleaner water and enhanced wildlife habitat.

This is an exciting time to preserve the wonder of parks in Zionsville. Stay tuned for updates and the Carpenter Nature Preserve masterplan rollout. In the meantime, be sure to support other projects like these by donating to the Zionsville Parks Foundation.

The Town of Zionsville Park Board Meeting from February 9th is below. This involves the initial presentation of the master plan, which begins at 1:18:55.
