Thank You for a Successful Fundraiser!
The Foundation held its inaugural Parks & Pastries breakfast fundraiser on October 25 to raise funds and awareness for our mission to preserve, enhance and grow Zionsville’s parks and green spaces. With a sold-out audience at Zionsville Town Hall, we were able to celebrate the early successes of the Foundation, including securing gifts and pledges of $650,000 for Carpenter Nature Preserve; sponsoring environmental education programs for youth; and funding trees, benches, and a mural in Zionsville parks.
Our featured speaker, Martha Hoover, gave an inspirational and informative talk about philanthropy and the Patachou Foundation. We are so grateful for her participation. Thanks also to Mayor John Stehr and Parks Superintendent Jarod Logsdon for their presentations and for their commitment to Zionsville’s legacy of being a “town within a park.”
Many thanks to our Presenting Sponsor Scannell Properties/Sylo; our Food and Beverage Sponsor REA, and our table sponsors, Wild Birds Unlimited, Delv Design, Goelzer Investment Management, Henke Development Group, Eli Lilly and Company, Kelly Masoncup and Allison Wharry.
Honoring a Local Leader | The Acorn Award
At Parks & Pastries, the Zionsville Parks Foundation bestowed its first-ever Acorn Award to Elizabeth Mueller. The Acorn Award is presented to an individual to honor outstanding contributions to Zionsville’s natural resources, wildlife habitat, and parks. Nancy Carpenter, president and founder of the Foundation, presented the award to her longtime friend Elizabeth for her decades of advocacy for wildlife conservation in Zionsville. Elizabeth co-founded Habitat CPR, which helped secure Zionsville’s wildlife habitat certification through the National Wildlife Federation. She was a regular contributor to the Zionsville Times Sentinel with her Habitat Happenings articles. As a founding member of the Friends of the Zion Nature Center, she helped bring the original nature center, located in a house across from Eagle Elementary, to our community. Elizabeth served on the Park Board as well as the Greenspace Foundation which helped fund the purchase of Elm Street Green.
We are so inspired by Elizabeth’s dedication to wildlife, natural habitats, and parks! She has led conservation efforts in Zionsville with her passion, kindness, and “get it done” spirit. An oak tree with a commemorative plaque will be planted in a Zionsville park in Elizabeth’s honor.
