The Zionsville Parks Foundation is thrilled to partner with Monarch Watch again this spring to help preserve monarch butterflies.
Founded in 1992 at the University of Kansas, Monarch Watch is an education, conservation and research program focused on the monarch butterfly. Monarch Watch has awarded the Foundation a grant of milkweed plugs which volunteers will plant in Zionsville parks and along Zionsville trails. The monarch butterfly’s remarkable migration across North America would not be possible without its host plant, the milkweed. Monarch butterflies only lay eggs on milkweed, and monarch caterpillars only feed on milkweed leaves.
Stay tuned to the Foundation’s Facebook and Instagram for information on volunteer days to help plant these vital native milkweed plugs. We’d love to have you join us.
